(Baltimore, MD) October 16, 2008 – The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is accepting public comment on the Purple Line Study AA/DEIS through January 14, 2009. The AA/DEIS presents the project’s purpose and need, and analysis of the various alternatives and environmental considerations. The document is prepared in accordance with standards set by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
The Purple Line is a proposed 16-mile light rail or bus rapid transit line that would extend from Bethesda in Montgomery County to New Carrollton in Prince George’s County, providing a direct connection with Metro, MARC, AMTRAK, and local bus services. The Purple Line would have approximately 21 stations and would also serve Takoma Park, Langley Park, University of Maryland, and Riverdale Park. The main goal of the project is to provide faster, more reliable transit service options.
