Customers Can Now Renew ID Card Online or at an MVA Kiosk

GLEN BURNIE, MD (April 19, 2012) -- In another step forward to increasing the availability and convenience of services, the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) has launched a new online and self-serv kiosk application which now allows Marylanders to renew their State Identification (ID) card via the internet or at an MVA self-serv kiosk.

Here is how it works:  Marylanders who need to renew their ID cards can go online ( or visit an MVA self-serv kiosk (located in all MVA offices) and enter their ID card number, their date of birth, and their MVA Pin or the last four digits of their Social Security Number.

The fee to renew an ID card is $15, and there is no fee if you are 65 years old or older, or if you have a disability which limits a major life activity.  Your ID card will be processed and mailed to your address on record within 10 business days.  Renewal notices will be sent to customers prior to their expiration date informing them whether they are eligible for this new service.

"We are constantly striving to improve MVA services to make them more  convenient for our customers and reduce the need to visit an MVA branch office.  The ID card renewal online and through the self-serv kiosk is another example of this goal," said MVA Administrator John Kuo. "We recognize all our customers are very busy and providing more convenient services will help customers save precious time."

Eligibility criteria for an ID card renewal online includes:

    • A valid non-expired ID card
    • 18 years of age or older
    • A verifiable Social Security Number (SSN) or a current ID card with a "U" restriction
    • A verified MD residential address on record
    • Received your last ID card in person

In addition to ID card renewal, the MVA has a variety of routine transactions available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week through our website including changes of address, vehicle registration renewals, scheduling a driver skills test, purchasing personalized license plates, and obtaining a certified driving record.   Customers can also complete transactions via the MVA Interactive Voice Response Phone System by calling 1-888-834-7344.  Anytime, Anywhere, MVA Online!
