Internship Opportunities

The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) has several opportunities for students to intern within Maryland's integrated transportation system. The internships are designed to introduce students to the rewards and challenges of working in State government while earning academic credits and/or monetary compensation.

Student Internship Opportunities

Transportation and Civil Engineering Program (TRAC) - This is a hands on summer program at the State Highway Administration (SHA) that allows students to use math and science to solve real-world problems in transportation and civil engineering. Students are paid for their participation in the program. Undergraduate College Students Internship Opportunities

MDOT Fellows Internship Program - This is an internship opportunity directed by The Secretary's Office for college undergraduates entering their senior year who are attending a four-year college or university in Maryland.  The interns have an opportunity to work within the MDOT's integrated transportation system in one of six agencies: Maryland Aviation Administration, Maryland Port Administration, Maryland Transit Administration, Maryland Transportation Authority, Motor Vehicle Administration, State Highway Administration and The Secretary's Office which is the Headquarters for the Maryland Department of Transportation. Interns will work with senior level administrators in an area that closely corresponds with their field of study or career interests. Students are paid for their participation in the program. Transportation Engineering Internship Program (formerly the Student Technical Assistant Program) -
There are no positions available for summer 2010. The Program is temporarily suspended until further notice.

The Transportation Engineering Internship (TEI) Program, formerly known as the Student Technical Assistant (STA) Program, at the Maryland State Highway Administration, is a summer program designed for Civil Engineering majors and Graduate Engineers. The Construction Inspection Division (CID) offers paid, hands-on experience with an opportunity to work closely with Construction Project Engineers. The work entails inspecting bridges and highways to ensure contract specifications throughout the State of Maryland. For additional information about this program, please

Graduate College Students Internship Opportunities

MDOT Morgan Graduate School Internship Program - The Maryland Department of Transportation is pleased to partner with Morgan's National Transportation Center and extend this opportunity to deserving scholars seeking to gain practical and meaningful work experience in one of our unique Transportation Administrations. The internship program has been designed to increase and retain the number of professionals entering the field of transportation in order to sustain growth and improvement throughout the transportation industry. The internship program will commence in late January at which time students will serve one-year and will be compensated for their participation in the program.
