      The Department of Public Works (DPW) supports economic and business development in Baltimore City and throughout the region. Serving one of the most diverse regions in the country, DPW invites local minorities, women, and/or disadvantaged businesses to learn more about its Small Business Development Training Program.

      DPW’s Small Business Development Program offers construction management classes. This 10-week course is designed to make sure participants are contract-ready for the more than $3 billion in utility construction work, including Consent Decree sewer rehabilitation and replacement, and capital improvements under drinking water stormwater and wastewater.

      There is a nominal registration fee of $199, and participants will receive 10 training modules valued at $1,119.  All M/W/DBEs must complete an application prior to program participation. For more information about the training program, please call 410-433-2400 or send an email sbd@baltimorecity.gov.

      • Contract Administration — understanding and executing contracts;
      • Scheduling — effective and realistic scheduling to complete projects “on time and within budget;”

      • Conflict Resolution —protocol, methodology, and legal considerations;
      • Construction Accounting & Finance —learning about the dollars and cents of construction and how to do business with the City of Baltimore, and a complete coverage of City requirements and procedures; and  
      • Construction Best Practices — specialized training for trenchless sewer repair, site restoration, manhole repair, and lateral connections.

      Individuals interested in advancing their companies and enhancing their knowledge of sewer rehabilitation work and related support services are invited to participate in the training Program.     • MDOT MBE/DBE/ACDBE/SBE Application Assistance Workshop Time: 10:00a - 1:00p Location: Maryland Department of Transportation Headquarters, 7201 Corporate Center Drive, Hanover, Maryland 21076 Details:

      On a monthly basis, the Maryland Department of Transportation's Office of Small and Minority Business Policy hosts the MBE/DBE/ACDBE/SBE Application Assistance Workshop.  This workshop is intended for those firms interested in seeking Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), and/or Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE) and/or Small Business Enterprise (SBE) certification.  By attending the workshop, you will learn the benefits of certification, the five key requirements for certification, and the four steps in the certification process.  For information and registration visit www.mdot.maryland.gov/aaw.

      America's Small Business Development Center is hosting a Workshop on October 4, 2019 in Fredrick Maryland about MBE/DBE/ACDBE/SBE Certification with representatives from MDOT's Office of Small and Minority Business Policy. 

      MDOT’s Office of Small and Minority Business Policy (OSMBP) will take an in-depth look at how to obtain certification for the Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE), and Small Business Enterprise (SBE) programs.  The workshop will address eligibility standards; take you step-by-step through the certification application process; provide marketing tips for your business.

      Mayor Bernard C. "Jack" Young, Mayor's Office of Small, Minority and Women Business & Mid-Atlantic Region Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) Advanced Manufacturing Center – Baltimore will host the 2019 Minority Enterprise Development (MED) / Supplier Diversity and Inclusion (SDI) Week on Monday, October 7 through Friday, October 11, 2019. The theme of the week is Inform, Instruct, Inspire. This week was created to raise awareness about the critical role minority and women-owned businesses play in Baltimore at a time when they need support the most and offer business owners an opportunity to network and learn about new trends in the industry.
