      ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

      This workshop is for entrepreneurs who want to understand what it takes to sell to government agencies at the state level. Find out how to do business with Maryland. Gain an understanding of the procurement registration requirements, and learn how to market your company to state agencies. The workshop is centered on what market research tools are available to determine which agency make what purchases and how to position your company as one from whom they should buy.  Attendees will learn about:

      • Identify which government agencies buy what you sell
      • Doing research in the Maryland Marketplace and agency web sites in order to locate contracting opportunities targeted to their business
      • Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR), and the Federal Acquisitions Regulations(FAR) flow down clauses
      • University System of Maryland Procurement
      • Governor's Office Of Minority Affairs (GOMA)
      • Working effectively with the internet to research opportunities
      • State contracting certifications: SBR, DBE/MBE

       This course covers pre-award steps that a contractor needs to understand, as well as how the state government makes purchases.

       

      ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

      Ms. Johnson LeFlore has extensive experience in both government and commercial contracting. She has worked with a wide range of items, methodologies and procedures, including: Federal, Department of Defense, State Department and local contracts. Acquisition and instructions applicable to acquisition of highly sophisticated, unique research and development efforts, professional and management services. She reviewed requests for contractual services submitted by organizations supported by government agencies. Analyzing the requirement, conferring with appropriate personnel to obtain needed technical data related to preparation of the contractual document (scope of work, evaluation criteria, deliverables, patents, etc). Her experience encompasses the entire contract spectrum from cradle to grave contracting.

    • How to Obtain Certification for Opportunities at Port Covington & Small Business Reserve Program Time: 2:30p - 5:00p Location: 100 Community Place Crownsville, MD 21032 Details:

      Are you a minority or women-owned businesses located in Anne Arundel County interested in the development of Port Covington?

      The redevelopment of Port Covington by Sagamore Development LLC is one of the largest urban renewal projects in the country, encompassing 260 acres of waterfront property in south Baltimore estimated to cost $5.5B to construct.

      Key speaker, Courtney Billups, Esq., Chief of the Minority & Women's Opportunity Office will discuss how to obtain certification for the City of Baltimore. Staff from the Governor's Office of Minority Affairs will give an overview of how to obtain contracts under the State's Small Business Reserve Program. Catherine Paff, Vice President of Sagamore Development Company, will then outline upcoming opportunities at Port Covington.

      Registration begins at 2:30 p.m. There is no cost to attend.

      The one-day event is designed specifically for minority, women and veteran-owned businesses. The critical objective is to provide tools and resources to compete and excel in today’s business culture.

      This year’s Business Summit’s theme is “Start Right. Get Right. Grow Right.”

      • Start Right: Individuals who are not in business or have been doing business in an unofficial way and want to increase revenue or bring more formal structure to their organizations. ·

      • Get Right: Individuals who have been in business and have made some mistakes and want to get on the pathway to prosperity.

      • Grow Right: Individuals who have been in business and have reached a stable place. They are positioned for growth.

      The Business Summit is part of the GBUL’s Equal Opportunity Day (EOD) activities.
