      On a monthly basis, the Maryland Department of Transportation's Office of Small and Minority Business Policy hosts the MBE/DBE/ACDBE/SBE Application Assistance Workshop.  This workshop is intended for those firms interested in seeking Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), and/or Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE) and/or Small Business Enterprise (SBE) certification.  By attending the workshop, you will learn the benefits of certification, the five key requirements for certification, and the four steps in the certification process.  For information and registration visit www.mdot.maryland.gov/aaw.

    • Whiting-Turner’s Contracting Company’s Get Down to Business Call in Event Time: 8:00a - 8:30a Location: Conference Call Details:

      The event offers an opportunity for business owners to meet with the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company’s bid teams to find about projects that will be put out for bid in the next several months. This event is exclusively for diverse sub-contractors and vendors. 

      There will not be an “in person” event at the Whiting Turner offices. Instead there will be a dedicated time period from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, on June 11th , for to be able to call in to talk with a WT contact. It is an opportunity for a brief personal dialogue, without a lot of phone tag.  Calls will be limited to a 5 minute conversation. Additional conversations can be scheduled.

      Whiting Turner will provide the following information to ensure conversation topics are specific and focused. 

      • A project list with backup project information sheets. Project lists will be sent on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 two days prior to the call in date. Please do NOT call until June 11, 2020.

    • Ready, Set, GROW! Anne Arundel County: Access to Capital Forum Time: 9:30a - 12:00p Location: Governor's Coordinating Offices 100 Community Place Crownsville, MD 21032 Details:
      This procurement connections workshop series travels across the state providing insightful information on how to navigate the procurement process and connecting small, minority, women, and veteran-owned businesses with buyers from state agencies. Participants also get to meet with local government buyers and small business resource partners.
       

      Maryland is OPEN for Businesses and this free workshop series is a great networking and business development platform for small businesses that want to do businesses in the government sector.

This workshop is an introduction to the Maryland Procurement Technical Assistance Center and how it can help you prepare for government contracting success.

      Are you thinking of starting your own business? Our business plan writing workshop will help you gather your ideas and get them down on paper. Your completed plan will serve as a guide and give you direction on what steps you need to take to start and manage your business and provide an invaluable tool in applying for additional funding. The instructor, Paul Taylor, Executive Director, Small Business Resource Center will also explain in detail how to arrive at solid meaningful figures for the Cash Flow Projection element of your plan. Each of the various components of a business plan will be covered.

      1. Conduct workshops and group discussions that provide necessary tools for small, minority, woman and veteran owned businesses
      2. Provide businesses with one-on-one access to MDTA Procurement, Engineering, Consultant Services, Construction staff, and Prime Contractors
      3. Provide updated advertising dates for potential upcoming contracts
