      Tthe National Society of Black Engineers Baltimore Metropolitan Alumni Chapter (NSBE-BMAC) invites you to Minority Innovation Weekend (MIW). The goal of MIW is to provide training for individuals that are interested in taking a technology-based idea or concept and turning it into a viable tech startup. Assuming that you have an idea or concept in mind, the goal of the conference is to provide you with fundamental knowledge to help you get started.

      MIW will feature talks from dynamic speakers with experience in launching startups. These talks include:

      • Defining the Competition (Competitive Analysis)
      • The Minimal Viable Product (MVP)

      MIW will also feature an interactive panel session comprised of local innovators and entrepreneurs that will discuss the local startup ecosystem.

      2017 Business Opportunities and Entrepreneurial Training Summit

      Maryland Department of General Services (DGS)

      University System of Maryland (USM)

      The primary goal of the Business Opportunities and Entrepreneurial Training Summit is to help grow Maryland’s small, local, women-owned, minority-owned, veteran-owned and prime contracting companies by providing them with valuable information regarding both short term and long term contracting opportunities with MDOT, DGS, and new this year, USM. 

      In addition to USM, in attendance will be the Maryland Department of General Services’ Planning, Design & Construction Division, Energy Division, Facilities, Operations & Maintenance Division, and Statewide Commodities and Services, Maryland Aviation Administration (BWI Airport), Maryland State Highway Administration, Maryland Transit Administration, Maryland Transportation Authority, Maryland Port Administration and Motor Vehicle Administration.

      These contracts have an estimated value of over $2 billion.  This event will also feature informative entrepreneurial training sessions that will be conducted by experienced professional business trainers and subject matter experts.

      The registration fee is only $50 per person** and will include continental breakfast, buffet lunch, access to all Business Opportunities Sessions and access to all Entrepreneurial Training Sessions.  Through the Meet the Primes Forum, there is also the opportunity to meet with Prime Contractors seeking subcontractors.  You must register for each individual attending the event. Please be prepared to provide your ticket at the registration table.

      New to state contracting? Start at the beginning. This class is for small businesses that have little or no knowledge of the state procurement process. We'll focus on common procurement terminology, examine how the state contracting arena operates, and provide resources to help you determine if pursuing work in the public sector would be beneficial to your company. 

      Who should attend? Small business owners who want to assess the state contracting arena and gain a basic understanding of the procurement process.

      How do you fill out your MBE forms as a prime contractor?Maryland is committed to minority inclusion in the state contracting marketplace, and Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) goal requirements are included in most state procurements. Small business owners and certified MBE firms that want to compete as prime contractors must know how to correctly fill out the required MBE forms. Join us for a technical review of these critical forms, and a detailed discussion on the regulations that allow MBE primes to fulfill a portion of the MBE subcontracting goal.
