It's Back to School Time! Protect Children in School Bus Zones

School buses are designed with safety as a top priority, but children remain most vulnerable when waiting for, boarding, or exiting school buses. The area extending 10 feet from each side of the bus (often called the “danger zone”), is especially risky. To protect children in this zone, Maryland law requires drivers to maintain a safe distance and follow specific rules when near a stopped school bus.

By understanding and following Maryland’s laws and reviewing safety tips with your child, we can work together to keep all students safe while traveling to and from school.
